Low-Income Housing in Midland County
If you haven't thought about low-income housing in a while, take a minute to consider these facts:
  • 7 percent of Midland County housing is considered "substandard," with some townships having as much as 14.9 percent of housing classified this way.
  • 29.3 percent of Midland County residents are living on less than $20,000.
  • 11.1 percent of Midland County residents live below the poverty line, compared with 13.1 percent statewide.
  • Of those living in poverty in Midland County, female heads of households represent 35.3 percent.
  • The average selling price of a home in Midland County is $91,810.
  • The city provides a program of new home ownership for low-to-moderate income households, which has housed 35 households since 1989. The city has also provided 350 units of senior citizen housing.
  • Habitat for Humanity has completed 15 homes in Midland County as of summer 1997.
  • In 1997 there was a three to five year waiting list for subsidized housing.
