Midland Public Schools Bond Proposal. Michael Sharrow, Superintendent of Midland Public Schools, will speak about the Midland Public Schools 2.95 mill bond proposal to maintain and upgrade facilities. MPS residents will vote on this issue February 24th.

Why this millage is needed.
Age:Nine of every 10 MPS facilities are more than a half-century old. The average age of a MPS school is 61 years. Quite simply, our schools are old and they need repairs and upgrades.
Money: MPS had a sinking fund to support ongoing maintenance and repairs. That fund no longer exists and--if it did--it would be insufficient to finance the work that needs to be done.
Demographics: Demographic forecasters say MPS has "bottomed out." To house our current and anticipated enrollment, we will need two high schools, two middle schools, and seven elementary schools. Hence, MPS will have to dispose of facilities that are not needed, have negligible market value, and/or are too expensive to retrofit and bring up to code.

Further information may be found here.

The Midland LWV supports this proposal.
